The Great Health Care Scam and Why Rush Holt has to go!
Using bribes, gimmicks and deceit, Rush Holt and other Democrats in the House
of Representatives finally passed the health care bill on Sunday March 21, 2010
– a day that I believe we will long regret.

I believe the
heart and soul of our economic problems is the tax code. Designed to confuse
and intimidate the average American, it is 65,000-plus pages of confusing
language, terms and loopholes that make sense to no one. Nobody has ever
read the entire tax code, let alone been able to understand it.
· The Tax Code has done more to destroy small businesses and jobs in this
country than any other factor.
·
Americans are forced to spend hundreds of billions of dollars each year
preparing tax returns. Afterwards, the government spends billions more
auditing these tax returns, in the hopes of proving that you paid less than
you should have. Does this make any sense?
· The Tax Code is harmful to the environment: Think of all the trees that are
cut down each year to produce those endless forms!
·
Designed to promote class warfare, the code gives the power to special
interests and lobbyists. It allows Congress to play favorites, to pick the
winners and the losers, while dictating how you spend your money.
I am a firm supporter of The FairTax and, if elected, will become a proud co-sponsor of this important
legislation, H.R. 25, The Fair Tax Act.
The FairTax is a national consumption tax which replaces all current
federal taxes such as the income tax, payroll taxes, capital gains tax
and corporate tax. The FairTax is revenue neutral, and there are no income
tax forms to file every April 15. Under The FairTax, no longer will the
American people have to fear an IRS audit. To learn more, please visit

"Over the last
25 years, Congress has run Social Security like a “Ponzi Scheme” (rob Peter
to pay Paul), and the day of reckoning is coming.
In 2018 more
money will be coming out of the Social Security fund than going in. Yet is
there is no money in the account to pay this shortage. Congress has
borrowed the money from the Social Security Trust Account, giving the trust
account IOU’s. In short, Congress has borrowed your money without your
permission and does not have the means to pay it back! The trick for
Congress is to get the American people to pay even more money, without
disclosing that it has mismanaged the fund. Part of the solution is The FairTax. By using a more stable funding source, Social Security can be
saved. I also am in favor of all of us having more control over our Social
Security accounts. IRAs have been wildly successful, so why not allow Social
Security account recipients the same freedom and opportunity?

Once again Congress has promised more than it can deliver. Within 3-5 years
Medicare and Medicaid are going to be running deficits that the taxpayer
will have to foot the bill. Once again the trick for Congress will be to get
more money from the American people without disclosing that they mismanaged
the fund. And once again the problem can be solved with the implementation
of the Fair Tax.

Simply stated, government finances are in shambles. Our current legislators
are taking your hard earned tax dollars and spending a good portion of them
on ineffective ideas and programs. I do not agree with pork barrel projects,
such as Alaska’s “bridge to nowhere,” or the spending of billions of dollars
on endless studies that end up collecting dust, never to be seen again.
This reckless spending of other people’s money has led to a national debt of
$12 trillion, which you, the taxpayer, will have to pay back.
Just imagine what would happen if you ran your business or household budget
in a similar manner…Government spending is, simply put, out of control.
Wasteful spending on pork barrel projects - coupled with a Congress that
shows absolutely no fiscal discipline - has put us $12 trillion in the red.
This means every American household is in debt for over $132,000! This is
what the Federal Government has done to you. Incidentally, New Jersey is
dead last at getting a return on investment for the tax dollars we send to
Washington. So we are double shafted. We pay the highest taxes in the
nation, and we get back less per capita than any other state.
I am a fiscal conservative and believe the pork barrel projects, the
“bridges to nowhere,” the endless and useless studies, and waste of taxpayer
dollars must end.
I will propose that for every bill to increase taxes there should be a test
pilot program. If the bill passes and is signed into law, members of
Congress who voted to increase taxes will be the pilot project participants.
For two years those members will have to pay the increased tax, and we will
see how well the new tax works. With members of Congress having to pay the
tax increase before the American taxpayer, I suspect Congress would be much
more careful about raising taxes and increasing spending.

The way to have high quality and affordable
health care is primarily through the free enterprise system.
Every American should have catastrophic coverage for hospitalization,
disease or serious illness. Too many times we hear heartbreaking stories of
a family driven to financial ruin because they cannot pay the medical bills
of a family member stricken with a serious disease. This should never
happen. I believe every person should have catastrophic coverage in case of
such a life altering illness. This coverage would come from insurance
run in an efficient manner (in short, a mutual company like New Jersey
Manufacturers, not a stock-driven one) and not one driven by Wall Street.
By having this coverage separate from the everyday health care needs, it can
be handled much more efficiently and cost effectively. The original
idea behind insurance was to provide protection and coverage for major risk
of loss, not to try and cover every minor incident. The balance of a
person’s or family’s health care needs would be handled by the free
enterprise system via Health Savings Accounts (HSA). Every American will
have the freedom to open an account that is not bound by their job or state
boundary.
The money would be placed in the account, tax-free, and medical services
would be paid from the account accordingly. No longer would you be at the
mercy of third party providers and bureaucrats; you would be in control.
Employers competing for the services of employees could include funding of
all or part of the account as part of their terms of employment. And, the
account would be portable. No longer would you have to stay in a job just so
you do not lose your benefits. If elected, I will introduce or co-sponsor
legislation that gives you the freedom to make your healthcare choices,
rather than some Congressman or bureaucrat making that decision for you.

How many times have you heard: “Our legal
system may not be perfect, but it is the best in the world”?
Our legal system’s fundamental charge should be to seek justice in civil and
criminal matters. And by justice, we are speaking of seeking the truth.
Unfortunately, our legal system fails this test miserably. Today’s
court system seems more focused on what can be “proven” in a court of law,
as defined by what evidence is allowed by the courts. Truth appears to have
taken a backseat. Our courts have become choked with frivolous lawsuits,
costing the American taxpayer billions. I will work on putting an end to
these useless and costly lawsuits. Many courts have far overstepped their
bounds as defined in the Constitution.

I believe a revamping of our schools and
education system is absolutely necessary.
Having Washington, Trenton or the courts run
our schools is not the way to go. I trust the people of the
community, along with the teachers and business leaders, to be able
to run their schools. After all, who cares more about their child’s
education, the parents and community or some bureaucrat in
Washington? If elected, I would work toward limiting or eliminating
federal mandates on teachers.
I believe we should give our teachers the
freedom to teach. In too many cases, we are trying to teach all
children the same way. This is simply not possible. Different
children learn in different ways. Many other nations allow children
to attend schools of their choice according to their interests. This
frees teachers to teach in the style that benefits their students
without worrying about what some bureaucrat or politician in
Washington thinks.

I am
a firm believer in free enterprise and free markets. When
politicians attempt to protect industries, generally the short-term
fix leads to long-term harm. Profit is good. Without the opportunity
to earn profits, jobs would not be created, trade would cease, and
Americans would have not have the opportunity to improve their
lives. Without profits, pensions could not be funded nor would
government programs such as Social Security and Medicare be funded.
Growth would be non-existent.

I am in
favor of drilling for oil. Current 12th District
Congressman Holt and others in Washington are allowing us to be held
hostage by other nations by not permitting American oil companies to
drill domestically. They claim that if we were to begin drilling for
new oil now, prices would not come down for at least five years.
This is not true. The oil commodities market is ruled by supply and
demand. As commodity brokers look into the future and see an
increase in supply coming down the road, oil prices will stabilize,
beginning a decline in the price of oil. I am
also in favor of encouraging alternative sources of energy. Through
free enterprise, numerous companies - wind, solar, and hydroelectric
among them - are developing new technologies that will help loosen
our dependence on oil. These innovators should be encouraged and
allowed to grow and develop.

I believe in term limits.
Our founding fathers had it right when they envisioned citizen
statesmen who serve, then return home to live under the laws they
created. No one person or party should view elected office as a
lifetime appointment. I will propose three two-year terms for the
House of Representatives and two six-year terms in the Senate.
Today’s politicians would be much more careful about the legislation
they pass if they realize that they will soon have to be living
under those laws as private citizens.

For
years, Americans were told that our country’s financial problems
resulted from a lack of savings. We have gone from being the largest
creditor nation to the largest debtor nation, all in one generation.
As Congress looks to cover up its financial sins, its mantra has
changed. We are now being told that we must “spend” our way out of
the recession. And since we have no money, we will need to borrow.
And we, the people, will have to pay it back. This is what passes
for sound economic policy in Washington.
But the United States government is running record
deficits, so it will have to borrow the money. Therefore the actions
-- overspending and over borrowing -- that got us into this mess are
now the solutions the President and Congress are telling us we need
to “stimulate the economy.” This process demonstrates the same
incorrect thinking as a family drowning in debt. A new credit card offer with a higher credit limit arrives in
the mail. The family
activates the new card, thinking it will solve their financial
problems. For the family, the result is only more debt, and the same
is true for our country.
I also oppose taxpayer-funded bonuses being paid to
executives. If the company didn’t earn a profit, and needs to be
subsidized, why is the taxpayer being asked to subsidize the bonuses
at these companies? A bonus
is a reward, not an entitlement.

The United States has had a
”trade deficit” with the rest of the world for decades. When you
hear that the trade deficit for a given month was, for example $40
billion, that simply means $40 billion dollars have disappeared from
our shores never to return -- unless these dollars are lent back to
us, but that only puts us even further into debt. As a result of bad
tax and trade policies, millions of American jobs and industries
have been lost. Simply stated, unless we change the tax code, we
will continue to severely limit the creation of new jobs in America.
The way to promote new jobs and expand trade exports is to change
the tax code to The FairTax, and move the small-minded, career
politicians and bureaucrats out of the way. Then watch the American
entrepreneurial spirit take over!

I will propose legislation
that the salaries of Congressmen be frozen until they start to pay
down the national debt. Until the debt is reduced by 25 percent, no
raises or cost of living increases would be allowed for members of
Congress.

New federal employee hires
and elected officials will be offered a self-directed 401K-style
plan, not the current defined benefit plan.
Managing the plan becomes the responsibility of the
individual, not a subsidy provided by the taxpayer.

Each member of Congress
should acknowledge whether or not they have read the
entire bill that they are voting on. Under these rules, it is likely
fewer bills would be submitted, and those that are would be of
higher quality, as well as easier to read and more to the point.
Pork spending hidden in bills would now be out in the open, which
hopefully will shame the members of Congress who continue to rip off
the American taxpayer.

Our country should support a
strong, efficient military and develop a game plan to win and get
out as quickly as possible when military action is necessary. Our
troops should never be used as political bargaining chips the way
Representatives Rush Holt and Nancy Pelosi did a few years back when
they threatened to withhold funding from troops stationed in Iraq.
For years, Rep. Holt has requested that Guantanamo be closed and
prisoners brought to the United States. The way I understand it, the
objective of the terrorists has been to infiltrate the United
States. It appears Congressman Holt thinks it is a good idea to give
them free passage to the United States. Rep. Holt also has supported
the Obama administration’s plan to try the September 11th terrorists
in U.S. Civilian courts. This forum would give the terrorists a
chance to publicize and promote their cause. Meanwhile, their
lawyers would be able to request sensitive classified documents and
information on behalf of their clients, a/k/a “the terrorists." The
events of September 11, 2001 were an act of war.
An act of war should be tried in a military court, not in a
civilian court.

New Jersey is dead last
among the 50 states on our rate of return from Washington. For every
dollar we send to Washington, we get less back than any other state.
This means we are subsidizing the 49 other states. Why?
For over 10 years, New Jersey’s congressmen have seen nothing wrong
with having the taxpayers of New Jersey subsidize the rest of the
nation, even though we already pay the highest property taxes and
the highest auto insurance in the country. Here in the 12th
District, Rep. Rush Holt has received a grade of 18 out of 100 from
the National Taxpayers Union for the decade that he has been in
Washington. By electing
fiscal conservatives of which I am one, the rip-off of New Jersey
taxpayers will come to an end. First, we’ll eliminate the pork from
these projects, then we’ll see that New Jersey earns a fair return
on the dollars it sends to Washington.

One
of the responsibilities given to Congress is to protect and defend
our borders. In this they have failed miserably. President Reagan
summed up the situation clearly: "The simple truth is that we've
lost control of our own borders, and no Nation can do that and
survive. We ignore America's lost sovereignty at our own peril."
Unfortunately as September 11, 2001 has shown, we ignored the
peril and paid dearly for it.
The government really has no idea how many illegal immigrants are in
the country, much less what their intentions may be. Congress,
through half-hearted attempts, has shown itself incapable of gaining
control of our borders. And many of our largest cities, for example
New York and San Francisco, refuse to enforce our nation’s
immigration laws, further exacerbating the problem. Until we stem
the flow of illegal immigrants coming into the United States, any
amnesty proposal by Congress will do nothing to solve the problem
and will in fact make it worse.
Step One: Gain control of our borders to stop the flow of illegal immigrants
entering our nation. This
includes airports and all other points of entry. Strict enforcement
of our laws is essential.
Step Two. Amend the U.S. Constitution and U.S. Code Title 8 Section 1401 to state:
"Only children born of U.S. citizens and legal residents in the U.S.
will be granted United States citizenship".|
Step Three: Pass legislation such as H.R. 3308,
The
Secure America through
Verification and Enforcement Act, which calls for an
E-verify program for employment verification.
Once we have stemmed the flow of illegal immigration, we then
can look to revise and pass immigration policies that will benefit
the United States and those who look to come here legally and
request citizenship.
